Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a paperboard set-up box?
Paperboard set-up boxes can be made of single or laminated chipboard. The board can be from .030 up to .070 thickness, depending on the application. Most paperboard boxes are two piece construction, meaning there is a bottom and top. Most commonly refered to as the box and lid, or box and cover. General size ranges of paperboard boxes are from 2" x 1" to 20" x 14" with a minimum depth of 1/2" and a maximum depth of 4-1/2" Through different production techniques a larger depth can be acheived by using inner necks. There are many applications for paperboard boxes ranging from game boxes to pharmacuticals. Typically a set-up paperboard box is considered a higher end box as the paper and printing used on these boxes allow for superb print and visual quality and just maintain a higher asthetic value.
What are wrapped boxes?
Wrapped boxes are those that are wrapped with paper of a varity of colors and textures. Depending on the paper type, the paper can be printed or foil stamped with any colors or combination of colors. When the paper is cut to fit a box it is referred to as a wrap. Paper wraps can also be embossed with certain logos and text as well as embossed with many textures.
What does telescoping lid mean?
Since the lid must fit over top of the box, the lid is made slightly larger than the box to allow the lid to freely slide down over the box. This makes a telescoping effect. If one refers to the lid as "full telescoping", this means that the lid is the same height as the box and comes down flush with the box bottom. In most cases, lids are not quite as deep as the box in order to allow the box to be opened with greater ease. In some instances when a full telescoping lid is required, small half circle "thumbnotches" are placed on the bottom edge of the lid to allow ease of opening the box.
What is a plain stayed box?
A plain stayed box is a box that does not have any paper covering it. This box is made with the corners being sealed with a heat sensitive tape applied at the machine. These boxes are very functional and are used when the asthetic quality of the box is not a crucial concern and when price may be an issue. They are low cost alternatives, yet perform nicely.
